Garden
The garden of Weikersheim Palace was laid out in the early 18th century for Count Carl Ludwig of Hohenlohe, and it has survived almost unchanged. Statues of gods, the seasons and the elements line its paths, the Hercules Fountain sits at its centre, and at the far end a curved orangery frames the view into the Tauber valley.
Many Baroque gardens in Germany were turned into English landscape parks in the 19th century. Weikersheim’s was not, so you can still walk through a garden much as a count and his guests saw it some 300 years ago: geometric flower beds, gravel paths, clipped hedges, water and a crowd of stone figures, all lined up on the palace.
