Tours and day trips from Weikersheim

Follow the night watchman through Rothenburg, see the Würzburg Residence, taste Franconian wine, cruise the Main to Veitshöchheim or spend a day in Nuremberg, Heidelberg or Bamberg. Every tour here is bookable online through GetYourGuide.

Rothenburg ob der Tauber

Rothenburg, the best-preserved medieval walled town in Germany, is about 35 minutes up the Tauber valley from Weikersheim. Follow the night watchman through the lanes, walk the town with a guide or step into the crime museum.

Würzburg and Franconian wine

Würzburg, the capital of Franconian wine, is under an hour north. See the Residence and its great staircase, walk the old town to the Main bridge, taste wine from the round Bocksbeutel bottle or take a boat to the Rococo garden at Veitshöchheim.

Nuremberg and further afield

With a car, Nuremberg is about an hour and a half away, and Bamberg and Heidelberg a little further. Each makes a long but rewarding day out from Weikersheim.

Booking tours from Weikersheim: what to know

Weikersheim is a small town, and its palace interior is shown on guided tours run on site, so you do not need to book a tour in advance to see it. Its great advantage is its position: on the Romantic Road, between Rothenburg and Würzburg, with Nuremberg and other cities within a long day’s reach. Most bookable tours start in those towns, so plan to drive or take the train to the meeting point.

Rothenburg ob der Tauber

The night watchman’s evening tour is a Rothenburg tradition and a great introduction to the town. A daytime walking tour adds the history behind the walls and houses. Read our Rothenburg day trip guide.

Würzburg and wine

A guided tour of the Residence explains the rooms and Tiepolo’s fresco, and wine tastings in the old cellars of the city’s great wine estates are a highlight. Boats run down the Main to the Rococo garden at Veitshöchheim in the warmer months.

Longer day trips

Nuremberg, Heidelberg and Bamberg are 1½ to 2 hours away by car, so start early. A walking tour helps you see the best of each city in a few hours.

Cancellation terms

Many tours on GetYourGuide offer free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start time, and some let you reserve now and pay later. Terms vary by tour, so read them before you book.
